Real lead vs junk lead: how to check a list you already bought
Real and junk leads look identical in a spreadsheet. Four checks on the person tell them apart.
What actually separates real from junk
It isn’t how complete the record looks. A junk lead can have every field filled in and still be a disconnected number, a name that doesn’t match the address, or a synthetic identity. What separates real from junk is whether a verifiable person is actually behind the record and actually reachable — not whether the cells are populated.
The four checks
- Identity — does a real, verifiable person match this name and address?
- Phone — live mobile, or disconnected / reassigned / spam-flagged VOIP?
- Address — current, or moved-on?
- Risk — synthetic-identity or fraud markers?
Pass them and it’s a real lead worth a call; fail them and it’s junk you can skip.
Junk isn’t always fraud — sometimes it’s just dead
Not every junk lead is a scam. Plenty are perfectly legitimate records that simply went stale — the person moved, changed numbers, or was sold to five agents before you. The verdict is the same (skip it), but it’s worth knowing the difference: this is about reachability, not just fraud.
Check the list you already have
You don’t need to inspect records by hand. Paste or upload the list you bought and every row comes back graded — real leads sorted to the top, junk flagged to skip. One pass turns a spreadsheet you can’t trust into a call list you can.
FAQ
How do I tell if a lead is real or fake?
Check the person, not the fields: is the identity verifiable, is the phone a live number (not disconnected or reassigned), is the address current, are there fraud markers. A record that fails those is junk, however complete it looks.
Is a junk lead always fraud?
No. Some are fraudulent, but many are simply dead — the person moved, changed numbers, or the lead was resold. Either way the verdict is skip; the point is reachability.
Can I check leads I already bought?
Yes — that’s the main use. Paste or upload the purchased list and every record comes back graded, with the junk flagged to skip.
